Headband Marijuana Strain

Headband

About

Headband Marijuana StrainHeadband is an indica dominant strain that is popular for its potent heady effects. The name headband comes from the sensation that is created when the THC hits the temples and causes pressure to build up around the head, it feels like wearing a headband. This strain has THC levels of 20% to 27% and will get most patients stoned.

Headband is a cross between two popular cannabis strains: OG Kush and Sour diesel. The appearance is typical of indicas with short stems and bushy leaves. For indoor grow, trimming the fanned leaves once in a while will be beneficial. It has a high bud to leaf ratio, causing the buds to be low lying. The buds are coated with silvery trichomes which have high resin amounts. This makes it hard to break them by hand. The scent is strong and pungent; it will immediately fill up the room once you expose the buds. It is a balance between earthiness probably from its Sour Diesel ancestry and a lemony scent. The flavor of the smoke is creamy with hints of earth and lavender; even beginners should be able to tolerate this well.

Strain Type

This is an indica dominant strain with 60% indica and 40% sativa. It has high THC amounts ranging from 20% to 27%.

Origin

Headband is a cross between OG Kush and Sour Diesel. It has been speculated that this strain was created by a Colorado breeder by the name of Reserva Privada. This has not been confirmed though. Others believe that this strain was created in Humboldt County.

Effects

The effects of the Headband strain are well balanced throughout the body. As you begin to toke, the hit will first be felt circulating at your temples like you are wearing a headband. The euphoria that comes is uplifting and energizing. The effects will transcend to the body and produce a couch-lock effect. After about two hours you may be tempted to take a quick nap. The body hit is intense and sedating, making this a good evening strain.

Terpenes

Terpene Profile

Terpenes are present in all cannabis strains. Apart from giving weed it different aromas and scents, terpenes add to the therapeutic potential of cannabis strains. Studies have shown that when cannabinoids such as THC and CBD are combined with terpenes, the therapeutic potential is made more powerful and lasts for longer. This is referred to as the entourage effect.

Headband has the following abundant terpenes: myrcene, camphene, valencene, limonene and selinadiene.

Myrcene

This is the most abundant terpene in most cannabis strains. It has an earthy smell that is pungent. Myrcene has pain relieving and anti inflammatory properties.

Camphene

Camphene has a musky smell that will remind you of walking on damp woodlands. It is often mistaken with myrcene which has a similar scent. It has potent anti oxidant properties when mixed with vitamin C. It is usually incorporated in skin creams and used in the treatment of eczema and psoriasis.

Valencene

This terpene smells of Valencia oranges. It has insect repellent properties.

Limonene

Limonene smells of lemons. It is abundant in citrus fruits as well. It is useful as a mood elevator and anti depressant. It also has antifungal and antibacterial properties to boot.

Selinadiene

This is a rare terpene found in Headband. Not much is known of its medical use.
