Dutch Hawaiian has the following terpenes: linalool, limonene, caryophyllene and humulene. There are over 200 terpenes that can be present in the cannabis plant; so far, about 20 have been extensively studied. Terpenes will vary between strains as well as between different batches. One batch of the same strain may have more terpenes as compared to the next; this is because of the difference in breeding practices that may arise. Before purchasing a medicinal cannabis product, it is always important to request for third-party lab results to confirm which terpenes are present in that particular batch. The results also show the potency and purity of that particular batch.
A number of studies have been carried out to investigate the therapeutic benefits of terpenes. Research in this area is still ongoing, but preliminary results have confirmed that they indeed boost the therapeutic benefits offered by cannabinoids such as THC and CBD. Note that terpenes are also found in other plants as well as insects.
